SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:I Workshop of MaGIC Project
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Domenico Ridente The 1=C2=B0 Workshop of MAGIC Project was held in Rimini, 10- 11 September 2007, within the =E2=80=9C6=C2=B0 Forum Italiano di Scienze della Terra =E2=80=9D - GEOITALIA Meeting. More than thirty Researchers attended the two day s of the Workshop, during which the geologic setting and the state-of-the- art in terms of geohazards of the Italian margins were presented and discu ssed. The Sessions on the geology of the Italian margins were complemented by =E2=80=9CDiscussion Session=E2=80=9D on: 1) Acquisition and elaboration of multibe am data; 2) Recognition and classification of geohazard features at the se afloor; 3) risk mitigation; 4) Organization and managerial aspects of the Project. SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Int. Conference on Seafloor Mapping for Geohazard Assessment
DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:From May 10 to 13, the International Conference on Seafloor Mapping for G eohazard Assessment took place in Ischia (Italy), co-sponsored by IGCP511 and Magic Project. Some 90 researchers attended the conference, half of t hem from 13 foreign countries (Canada, China, India, USA, and main Europea n nations). One third of the participants were from the industry or consul tant companies and that fact promoted good Discussion on the meaning of ge ohazards, tools and needs for applied studies. Leading edge technology and methods (AUV, repetitive mapping, backscatter processing and integrated i nterpretation) have been shown on 50 oral and posters presentations, with case histories from all around the world (see attached image and program) and it was offered to produce a special issue on Marine Geophysical Resear ch that already collected some 25 expression of will to produce articles. There was also a pre-conference field-trip on the Ischia debris avalanche , with on-board multibeam acquisition, analysis of seismic and long range sonar data, cores (one was opened for the occasion) and a visit to the dep osit outcropping south of the island. The nice weather and the fantastic frame of the Mortella botanical garden helped the conference to be enjoyab le and a general satisfaction was expressed by many. Francesco L. Chiocci
